In an article in Computer Weekly today – 19 December 2006 – we argue why the NHS’s National Programme for IT [NPfIT] matters.

Sometimes people question whether we should write a great deal about the NPfIT. One reason we do is that there will be benefits, perhaps even lives saved, if the right information about patients is available to clinicians where and when they need it. NHS IT also matters because if implementations fail – and they are subject to no statutory regulations – the disruption can have a direct and adverse effect on the care and treatment of patients.
