The Zoom changes from 100% to 150% to 60% to whatever automatically. I can change it back to 100%, but it's getting tiring. How can I stop the auto changes?
I use Windows 8.1 on a HP Pavilion g7. I don't believe it is triggered by any specific action. The zoom changes constantly; I can either fix it with CTRL 0 or fix it at the bottom of the screen. But it changes A LOT and drives me bananas. Thank you for anything you can tell me. It happens with email, Internet and Word (which is pretty much all I use). I'm old and don't use the computer that much.
That sounds odd, and it is very difficult to try to find the solution for those kinds of things without having physical access to the machine.
Some things that could help figure out the possible cause are:
When did it start? Do you think it is related to the upgrade to Windows 8.1? Did you install something new (hardware or software) on the machine recently, or about the time when the problem started?
It could be caused by incorrect drivers, or even hardware failures. It might be necessary to take it to a repair shop and have a qualified technician take a look at it.
I really appreciate your trying to solve my problem. It started soon after I got the computer, about 7-8 months ago. I tried HP, but they didn't really help much. It isn't related to upgrade; I did that last month. I'll probably just keep dealing with it, CTRL 0 or the lower right hand corner. But I appreciate your help. [It's now shows 110%, but it hasn't changed!!]
-On your Win8 main screen type "Control Panel" (or Settings) -Look for the "Mouse" option, and click on it -In the mouse settings window, look for a tab or section for the "Panel" -In the panel settings window look for a feature called "Pinch to Zoom" or similar, and disable it.
By "Panel" I meant the touch pad or track pad, and the setting may be under a "gestures" area, and with a different name, but always with the word "zoom" in it.
It seems Control Panels differ a LOT on different versions of Windows 8.0 and 8.1. I didn't find anything about "zoom" in the Control Panel. I did find something in "Windows Help and Support" which showed me how I can change the "zoom" with two fingers on the Touch Screen. Maybe that's what I'm doing--I don't think so, but it gives me something else to do. I appreciate your help, but it's amazing how you go to change something, and something completely different starts happening. Oh well. Thanks anyway.
In case you want to give it another go, the zoom-related setting won't be directly in the control panel. In the control panel you have to look for the "mouse" item. Once in the mouse settings windows you should find something related to the pad and its zooming options.
I did look under "Mouse"; nothing about zooming. I did a search for "Zoom" and did something (wish I could remember what!!). Nothing major, but for some reason a picture of a Keyboard is at the bottom of the screen. I'm just happy it works!! I appreciate your caring and your answers, but I've decided to just CTRL 0 it or change it near the bottom of the screen.

What application are you using?
What operating system is it running on?
When does it happen? is it triggered by a specific action from you?

Try doing this:

-Look for the "Mouse" option, and click on it
-In the mouse settings window, look for a tab or section for the "Panel"
-In the panel settings window look for a feature called "Pinch to Zoom" or similar, and disable it.
Maybe that is what is causing the problem.
