WMF is a format that's at least 30 years old with numerous releases, including patches for serious vulnerabilities. (It possibly should no longer be used.)
Without knowing what (including version/release and platform) is exporting the format and some info about what the WMF format version is and what platform the WMF is imported into, not much can be said about what might help, if anything can help at all.
Microsoft released the WMF specs a couple of times many years ago, but there was some confusion by 3rd-party developers. In some cases, reverse-engineering was used rather than the specs. Fidelity might be questionable at best.
What application are you using for export? Is it AutoCAD or other external tool ? How many dwg files are there? Are you doing one by one or use a mechanism for bulk conversion? Please provide more details.

I am using autocad map 2017, I am exporting one drawing that is about 5m.
Here is a great link, https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/getting-started/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/ENU/AutoCAD-Core/files/GUID-DF7E2411-C49B-4E51-AF58-32EC2EE1C809-htm.html
However you can convert dwg to dxf or jpg also.
