Does any know of a company that can do a wireless 802.11g site survey in the kenosha wis area ? I had a point to point wirelss setup and I am being told by Dlink that there is now signal interfance causing the devices to reboot. And I need to get a site survey to find out where the interfance is coming from. Does anyone know of anyone that can do this and a aproximent cost for the survey ? Thanks

I think you would have to do the site survey yourself. First of all, What frequency band are u using? I suppose it's the 2.4Ghz frequency, To carry out the survey, u would need a laptop with a wi-fi card and a software called NETSTUMBLER from www.netstumbler.com. I think the reason you are having interference is becos the other signal and yours are on the same frequency channel, try to change ur channel and then conduct your own survey. Hope this works

If you find time go take a look from where your dishes are located. 9 times outta 10 you can see someone elses dish that might be causeing a problem and find a way to relocate yours or block some of the interferance. I use to do surveys for sprint and you can have some one use a spectro analyzer i think its called, kinda expensive but they can look at what signals you might be having trouble with. If the device is rebooting I would wonder if you are over heating? our proxim point to point actually was pushing to hard in one direction so we had to throttle it down to get the signal to stay up.. bummped it from a 50 meg pipe to 30 meg.

You should also check with your local electric company. There are instances were defective electrical distribution equipment can send out broad spectrum RF. We had one once interfering with CATV reception. If memory serves, it was a faulty transformer sizzling away a block away from our headend. Replacing that transformer solved not only our problem, but poor radio, cell and broadcast TV reception in the entire neghborhood.

Any WLAN service provider in the Milwaukee area should be able to perform a survey for you. If there is interference from another RF source you will need to perform the survey with a spectrum analyzer to identify the source and frequency of the interference. If the problem is being caused by another WLAN using a laptop and netstumbler my help you find the source but if the interference is from some other RF source you will need to use a specturm analyzer. A site survey can be expensive but it is cheaper than buying your own analyzer.
