Viruses cause this to happen, just as you experienced the first time. The virus definitions aren’t detecting it with the products you have tried because they may not be up to date or may not have written a definition yet. Try a different virus scan. Some you can do online for free.

Could you be a little more specific? Are you given an error message? Does the System Restore program not show any points, or not come up at all? With that information we should be able to help you better! ^_^

Thank you for your response. When I go through the restore process I get the screen that asks for a restoration point on a calendar. I have tried several highlighted dates on the page all with no success. (BTW, the calendar will not go past September of this year when other times I have used the restore I was able to pick a date any where in the past as long as it was highlighted) I click through all the prompts and my computer shuts down and then re-boots. After the re-boot a small window in the center of the screen shows "restoration in progress" but this goes way too fast and is not the way it would typically show this progress (way too fast = 2 seconds vs about 5 minutes if it is working properly). Then the screen flickers and a full screen restoration "report" comes up telling me the restoration is incomplete and no changes have been made to the computer. The last time something like this happened I had a virus but I have had the techs at Symantec do scans and I have run the Norton 360 scan and so far we can't detect a virus. This combined with not being able to fully defrag the C drive is causing me problems. Can you help me with this?? Thanks again for your response

Technochic guess might be ok. If possible download latest MWAV (it's free) and scan the computer in safe mode by pressing F8 at startup time. It may also cause, if there is a problem with the "System Volume Information folder" on the same computer. It is better to rename "System Volume Information folder", and then restart computer and remember must have administrator privilege.
