When did you start having this problem ? Did you make some change (hardware or software) recently ? In what part of the boot process does the machine switch off ?

If you have the Win XP install disk, you could try a repair install. Boot off of the Win XP install disk, after the disk loads its files it will (should) give you an option of "Repair Current Installation". You will need to re-apply all of your OS updates and services packs, but your data and programs should be safe. Good Luck! -Flame
