Hi, I'm using a laptop with Windows 7 OS. I had installed USB security software for dealing with any problems on virus through pen drives, but my antivirus detected the software itself as a threat after upgrading the anti virus, but before I could remove it, it checked for unwanted issues slowing down the system and deleted some docs and from then I'm unable to use my windows media player where as I can use other player like real and VLC. I have even updated my player but even then it isn't playing anything, anyone with similar problem let me know the solution please!
This may have damaged the codec that runs Windows Media Player, so it no longer knows what that it is supposed to use Media Player for a lot of things. You can try an update the codec for media player to correct this issue. I am having the same issue with the Media Player for Windows 8.1 and I have not been able to get an updated codec through Microsoft.
Can you play any file types with media player or is it totally non functioning? Are you getting any errors at all? Is it possible the default program for the file types no longer uses media player as a default?
Before doing more experiments, it is better to completely un install WMP and manually reinstall the same. If u don't have this SW, dnld and install it. Make sure the corrupted wmp will remove from registry entries also.
