Trying to run Windows Update, but displays following error, "Windows can't currently check for updates, because the services is not running. You need to restart computer. "I have restarted but nothing changes. searched another site and it told me, "I had the same problem, i had previously installed all the updates, but then my machine blue screened on startup so rolled back everything, this seems to have corrupted the file c:windowssoftwaredistributiondatastorelogsedb.log - all i did was delete the log file reboot and now windows is updating."  Can't find the edb.log on my computer.

Strange. Have you installed anything new? Have you tried booting in safe mode with network access and tried the update? The reason you may not see the file is you do not have access like the admin. Try logging in as the admin and see if that works.
