Windows 98 Drive mapping

Networking
A small network with four windows 98 SE computers on it. This network also has an Hp laser on an hp printer server. This network is not connected to the internet. I am running static IP addresses. One computer is acting as a server to share files with the other three. At times one of the "workstations" will not be able to map the share on the "server" or the connection to the server will be lost. When this happens I can still browse to the other computers and I can ping the "server". To reenable access to the network share the "server" must be reset. Resetting the other workstations only does not help. Drives are mapped to be persistant. Note: I will update them to xp as soon as possible. But that is going to be awile.

Are you sure the hub/switch is not one of those 5 port devices where you can only use 4 (the 5th being an “uplink” port. If you have an 8 port device this is mute, but first thinks first. For best results it would be an 8 port switch.

I had a smaller hub in there and I changed to an 8 port 10/100 switch.
