I have around 24 GB of free space, but within ten minutes of starting up the computer this free space starts filling up automatically. This continues until free space is down to 0KB, whereupon it says not enough space to perform any task on the computer. I don't want to format the PC and I don't have any restore points any clue what should I do? It affects my download as well as internet surfing. I am also using (paid) Avira Antivirus.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Its look like that you may be accidentally copied some data on your C drive so it was full.
You can easily check your recycle bin folder completely delete all files
Also check your System Temp files and check your C drive download folders
If you have data on download folder move to different drive
As well as check also library folder too.

So, what are the files that are taking up the space? A great tool for finding files based on size, date, etc. (i.e. what you need to do) is FileLocator Pro.

It sounds like you either have malware or a poorly-written program on your system. Perhaps even a certain level of Windows logging that is taking place but otherwise not necessary.

It may be possible that there is an update to one or many programs on your system taking place when you power it up. Things like a Windows update, anti-virus, firewall or other programs. How large is the hard drive? 24G seems awfully small for free space. I'd look into adding a second drive if possible. If not you could boot in safe mode, then clean up your system. remove unused programs, temp internet files and use external storage for seldom used files. I recently bought a 4TB external HD for about $100.

...within ten minutes of starting up the computer this free space starts filling up automatically.

If your PC has networking disabled, does the space still get consumed?

Though you have a paid anti-virus, but sometimes anti-virus itself can be infected by a virus if patch/ updates did not do at proper time. For clear this doubts, download MWAV(Free & an emergency tool) then reboot 7 in safe mode and run this program from your desktop. Parameters are "Full Scan" & "All Drives" may be will have take a long time, but it is very helpful.

I have used MWAV a lot fixing other computers. It does a good job. Depending on how full your drive is this may run a few hours. It's very thorough.
