Windows 2000 Pro NT Passwords

I have forgot my windows passwords all profiles to log on to my computer running Windows 2000 Pro NT. No matter what I type I get the same response "The system could not log you on. Make sure your User name and domain are correct, then type your password again. Letters in passwords must be typed using the correct case. Make sure that Caps Lock is not accidentally on. OK?" I am not able to get to a DOS prompt to run one of the password recovery programs. It is probably something simple that I am forgetting to do or try. Please help it is driving me insane.

You say you cannot get a DOS prompt. Is that because you are trying to use the SAFEMODE to try and recover the password?
I use a linux floppy disk that boots into Linux and allows you to change the Administrator Password.
Therefore if you have a floppy disk or even a USB drive which has floppy drive capabilities then you can use a program called RAWWRITE to put the image onto the floppy.
It is quite easy to use and certainly gets you out of a bind when the local administrator password has been forgotten (or an over zealous IT-Manager has changed it to prevent the normal user accessing the workstation).

You can do a search on the web for PASSWORD RESETTER, however if you do not have any success then sned me a message and i will forward you the .bin file i use.

Per Microsoft: If a user password is lost, forgotten, or unknown, the only method to reset the password is for the administrator (or a user with administrative access) to log on and reset the password in Computer Management. There is no method in the Windows 2000 security model to bypass, disable, or reset the password. If the administrator password is lost, forgotten, or unknown, access to the computer may not be obtainable and the operating system may need to be reinstalled. Or google on "windows 2000 password changer" and "PWD_CHNG.exe" and "PwdChangerBootableFloppyDEMO.exe". One of those will get you a program that will allow you to reset the password.

If you do not know the password for any login with administrative privileges, then you will need to use a password reset utility. I have used this one to reset password on both Windows 2000 and Vista. Windows Password Recovery 6.0 For further information just visit
