I've started to notice that my Windows 10 laptop mysteriously boots up (even when I'm not on it). I'm not sure why this is happening? Can I check a log to see why it's booting up? What could it be?

It it’s in sleep or hibernate mode then there is a possibility that something is triggering it to start up. Like the mouse getting bumped or some other electrical issue. The may be some background virus causing it to wake as well. I hope it’s not booting up from a power off situation. If that is the case, take it to a repair shop.

Another possibility is that this may be caused by a Windows update requiring a reboot. Check you update settings to see when they happen and get applied. These normally occur during down time or when you get ready to shutdown. You may see a message that updates are ready to be applied. You will have options to apply and shut down or apply and restart most of the time.

There are several reasons behind it. First of all you can check either the Fast Startup is disable or not. Go to Control Panel > Power Options. Now choose what the power buttons do. And next uncheck "Turn on fast startup (recommended)". Save changes.

What did it mean mysteriously boots up? Is it slow start or shows missing files etc. etc. You can try to run this utility to check if this can be helpful.

Open Control Panel > Troubleshooting > View all option on the left side of the Windows. Click on System Maintenance option. Click on Next and follow the onscreen instructions to troubleshoot the issue. Check if it has improved the performance.

Have you updated the system recently? Or have you checked if there is an update available for your system? Open update history and check if there is any pending update, if yes, complete the update including optional and check again.
