I recently installed Windows 10 version 1709. But now Cortana can't find any of my third-part applications. FireFox for example. It's finding all of the usual Windows 10 apps (calculator and Microsoft Edge). Is there anything I can do on my end?

Check either Windows Search service is running. You can try this way: open services.msc and locate for Windows Search and start it & make Automatic. Or you can try Windows Built in Troubleshooter feature. Open Settings App > Update & Security & select Troubleshoot option from left side. On next window, there are many options. By using these options, you can fix problem related to this issue.

Moreover, as you mentioned, Windows 10 build 1709, if there is an update available, you can check through Windows Update. Or if already update recently, please check here for error etc: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/947821/fix-windows-update-errors-by-using-the-dism-or-system-update-readiness
