Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

The mail boxes are physically stored within the mailbox store. The mailbox store is basically a large database file which hold a large group of mailboxes.

I'm assuming you have a 2000 or 2003 exchange server. You can find out exacly where a particulat mailbox is stored by looking in active directory at the user's account and looking at the general tab. It is listed in the textbox labeled "Mailbox store", for example it may say--- SERVERNAME/Mailbox Storage Groupname/Storename from this information you can then open Exchaneg system manager (in 2003) and navigate to administrative groups -> First Administrive Group (assuming you don't have several) -> Mailbox Storage Groupname -> Storename -> Mailboxes to find the individual mailbox store.

mrdenny and jlees are correct. The mailboxes are kept in one large database in the mailbox store in Exchange system manager. If you are an exchange administrator you can access a person's mailbox easily by going in outlook and going to File > Open > Other User's Folder. This will only allow you to open the individual folders, say the inbox, or contacts. Not the entire mailbox itself. But if you are looking for a particular email this is a quick and dirty way to do it.
