I don’t believe there is any one ROI typically expected in any BI rollout. The overall cost will include software/licensing costs, deployment (likely involving vendor assistance) end user training and ongoing maintenance. Once you have all that figured in, you still need to analyze how well the tool is being adopted into your workflows before you can really evaluate your ROI.

Obviously like any other investment, ROI of a BI is quite possible. You know operational and capital expenses but this is one side. Why did you deploy BI is important to understand. It must decrease time to release management reports and dashboard. In return, decision making must be fast. A time must come when critical information is available in real-time.

Let's break it down. ROI = return/investment. The investment will depend on the costs which are individual to any particular deployment (see previous answer). The return is even more wildly variable and it depends on what you are improving, how much you are improving it, and how that translates to top-line growth, expense reduction, or a combination of both.
