What is better to have external memory or external hard drive?

Memory
I would like to save files to a memory or hard drive that I can access from any room in my home. I have lots of DVD digital copies on my computer and would like to be able to see them from any room in my home not just my computer room. I was thinking that I can connect external memory to my router and be able to access those movies, videos and pictures from that external memory and see them on any TV in my house. I also would like to have it secure to where only my family and I can see them.

First off it would not be memory but an external HD. You would need to set it up as a NAS. There are a few good sites like this that can walk you though the process to set it up as a media server. You may need to buy some additional hardware depending on what type of TV's you have.

External HDD is a better choice than memory. While you asked for security, you can purchase extra hardware/software that can be set it up.
