It allows to subscribe to RSS and Atom news feeds from various websites. This is a desktop applications that helps automatically update copy of the newsfeeds according to your schedule. However, the definition is broad. Assuming you are in a leaning process or something like to learn about this area. You can gather knowledge through online. Keep in mind, desktop feed reader is faster than online.

A feed reader reads feeds, such as news feeds. Standalone means that the program can be started and by itself; it doesn't run as a component of some other more general program. Web-based means that the feed is presented through some web site or that the reader is installed and run as a plug-in in a browser.

The feed reader that I use most is a part of the Thunderbird e-mail client. It presents news items very much the same way it presents e-mail items.

"...started and run by itself." Very irritating that posts can't be edited after entry.
