May be this would be the right place to ask this. But still I'm not getting a clear idea. We are using an application written in RPG running in iSeries machine. I'm pure AS/400 Developer cum Administrator. since the users complaining so much we wanted to develop a web application which will replace the existing one (green screen). The idea is to use the same database DB2 but with different front end programming. We have two options, which we decided to go ahead. but obvious we cant develop two different applications.
  1. Microsoft's .NET
  2. PHP
I don't have any idea how these two frond-end programs would work in AS/400 DB2 in terms of speed, performance and scalability. If anybody have any experience with these two front-end developments or any other suggestions, please help me. Surey.

You could also go a third route and develop in using CGI on the AS/400. It combines HTML and RPGLE code. We wrote a process for employees to enter their time sheets this way. Good performance and not a big learning curve. It uses the Apache server in the i-Series.
