Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

I’m confused a bit the only Vostro 3000 models I see are laptops not a
desktop (tower case). If this is a laptop then the only way to add
another hard drive (std or SSD) is to remove the optical drive and use
that slot.

You wanted to join one more internal hard drive, that's fine. But have you enough knowledge about that job. If there is any misconfiguration/error occurs related to HDD, then you can loose your whole data/the OS starts malfunctioning. Whatever you do, first of all take all necessary backups of your personal data (photo/files/folders etc.) then you can go for that. This is basically a hardware job. It is better to ask for an expert for completing the job smoothly.

It's fairly simple provided you have a case that has the extra drive bay and sufficient power supply. Also it depends on the drive type you are trying to add a standard HD or a SSD.  Also to consider are these IDE or SATA drive connections?

Instead of using internal HDD, better go for an external HDD which can simply insert in a USB port (considering USB 2.0/3.0) and you can manage space and work more smoothly. It is safe rather than using internal HDD.
