Using the printer port as a COM port to Establish a Hyperterminal session

My HP Compaq nx9010 has no serial DB9 connector. how can I convert the parrallel DB25 printer port to a COM port so as to run terminal emulation with Hyperterminal connecting to a Cisco device. I have tried the direct cable connection but I cant get the terminal window when the devices get connected using unix SLIP on LPT1. I am running Windos XP pro SP2.

Your best bet is to get a PCI serial/COM port addin card. They are not expensive and can be found at a number of local shops, otherwise you are fighting a format problem in the ports.

    You could also buy a USB to serial convertor which are also quite cheap. That's what we currently use.
