Antivirus on the iSeries
Does anyone know how to go about running an anti-virus scan using P.C. antivirus software over the iSeries IFS? I remember doing it a number of years ago, but can't for the life of me remember how I did it.

Read the IBM link here. It contains a lot of info including the key piece. “The operating system is not susceptible to PC virus attacks. Viruses attack a specific computer architecture. The architecture of the IBM i system makes it highly unlikely that a virus could be written to attack it”

What symptoms are there that you are going to scan the system? Is there an anti virus is installed ? Have your system up-to-date ? What problems have you faced to run the system? Please provide more details.

Are you concerned that the IFS may contain infected files? If so where are these files coming from? Are they being uploaded locally or up coming from an Outside source? More details on the origin of the files in question may help provide an alternative solution.

I have seen in the past where programmers will backup files from their p.c.s onto the IFS.  Some of these files had viruses.   The virus will hibernate there until someone else decides to copy that file onto their p.c. and it then spreads.
