This is a brand new HP Compaq Business Desktop DX2810 MT PC. I plug it in my USB Pen Drive. It detects and shows in the bottom of the desktop but when I click on 'My Computer', it didn't show up. I checked with the Disk Management and it's empty. It only shows DVD ROM drive. C and D drive is gone as well. I can see the USB Pen Drive under the Device Manager. So, what has exactly happened with the USB Pen Drive? I had try all the USB ports but none are working. Can someone help me with this issue?

suppose your pen drive is detect on your system it will automaticaly display your pen drive . it is not display your pendrive then some usb drivers are misssing just check it.

Since this is a new system a usb drive should be detected properly as the usb drivers should be native to the OS. What Operating System is this? Vista or XP? Have you called the manufacturer for support yet? I suggest you do so since a new system is under warranty.

When they ask you to reinstall the OS, that is the furthest that support can take it. If you have the same problem after a fresh install, you will have to send the laptop in for repairs. But it doesn’t sound like it is a problem with the laptop. Try your usb drive on another computer and see what that does. Reformat the drive on the other computer if you can access it, then try it on your computer again.

The best thing you have to do is to plug in the USB device to another computer which runs a different operating system. There might be a conflict with drivers installed into your computer system and you have to perform some troubleshooting to determine the problem.

Since you could not see the local hard drive, did you scan for malware infection? Hiding drives is a common malware attack.

I have to ask, is there any data on the pen drive already, or is it brand new as well? If it is brand new, then you may have to format it. have you tried to install the pen drive as a new device? If you have data on the drive, try another pc to see if it can see the files. I do not think it is the laptop that is faulty, but maybe just a mismatch in drivers, or explorer is not reading thedrive properly. Try another pc before doing anything drastic with the laptop.

    Try this :

    1) Click on Start button and then open run prompt.

    2) Type compmgmt.msc,  in run prompt and press enter. A computer management window will open.

    3) Now Select "Disk Management" from Left hand menu, Disk management options will appear at right side of pane.

    4) In disk management options, you will see some drives including your pen drive or external HDD. Now right click on your pen drive and select “Change Drive letter and paths” from the right click menu. A small window will pop-up.

    5) Now click on “Change” to assign a new drive letter to your pen drive. One thing to notice here is always assign the name which is not already being used by any other drive.

    6) Once done, pen drive will start appearing in my computer. If not, then reboot your computer.

    Hope this helps.
