USB Mass Storage devince not showing up in my computer

5 pts.
Microsoft Windows XP
Hi, I am running windows xp and when I plug in a Mass USB storage device it will not show up in my computer. It shows up in device manager and in disk management. Initially it showed up in disk management with no drive letter, but I was able to assign a drive path within disk managment. It still however will not show up in my computer. I can right click on the disk in disk management and open the contentnts of the disk. However, it will not allow me to use explorer to go do the same path. I can also get to the assigned drive in the command prompt. If I unplug and replug in the drive, the same thing happens. I have tried using different USB ports and the drive works fine on another desktop with the same OS. Please help.

Did you assign a drive letter to USB device in disk management? Even though it shows up in Disk Management, it could still be conflicting with an existing drive. If it is showing up in Disk Management with no drive letter, yes you can access it there, to display the contents, but it will not show up in explorer with out an assigned drive letter and it will need to be assigned one, that does not conflict with an existing one.

First, you can check your current status, then try giving instruction:

    1. Go to your computer Control Panel --> Admin tools --> Computer management
    2. Go to Disk management --> Right Click on your pen drive --> Open pop up window
    3. Assign the drive letter --> Press OK
    4. Now Pen drive appears in My computer, otherwise your disk may be corrupted

Scan/clean the flash drive with a good anti virus tool (like MWAV) and it may help to overcome this issue.

@Minham. Not sure what your problem, can you provide details on what you are trying to do? Can you see the drive but not access the files on it?

@Minham, what is your problem if it shows the name like this? Generally, volume label is the name assigned to flash drive, when the disk is formatted. You can change the name later also. What version of Windows is there? Have you problem to access its files/folders?
