I have an old USB device that still works but I've run into an issue. It's not connecting anymore with Windows. When I plug it in, it keeps connecting/reconnecting every 10 seconds or so. What should I do? I already installed all the drivers but that didn't work.

What type of USB device is it, a thumb drive or external drive or other media? Is it a USB 2.0 or 3.0? What version of Windows are you running and is it a 32 or 64 bit system? If you are using a different computer it may be a compatibility issue.

Probably the USB version may cause for this issue. Have you changed USB port that is insert in an another port, and the same happens again. First back up the USB/flash drive (everything should be backed it up) then you can format this USB. It also can helpful to overcome this issue.

You may not have tried this but if you have another USB port on you computer try and connect with that one. It may be the USB port you are using is damaged.

Based on what I read from the question and the rest of the answers, I would try first using in it different USB port to see if that corrects the issue, But I am more inclined to believe that the device itself has a thermal short in it. It heats up when it is used and causes an open. I know of no way to repair this problem. I have a USB 1.0 Fat 32 drive that is 256 meg and it works perfectly fine in 3.0 64 bit environment.

Strange. USB thumb drives are pretty durable in my experience. I had left on in a pair of pants. My wife did the laundry and put the pants thru the dryer. Next time I wore the pants I found the drive and it still worked and had my data.. That may be an extreme case but I rarely hear of these drives failing under normal conditions. Try it in another port or if you have access another computer. Maybe your PC has more issues with the board or drivers.

You can check the flash drive without format, by using chkdsk command (built-in) like, chkdsk <flash drive name> /f from cmd.

I've seen buggy stuff like this in Windows 10. It could be the operating system – maybe try rebooting – or it could be a faulty USB port or USB cable.
