Before we would want to give an answer to this, we would like to know do you have a business case for asking this question or is it a homework question?

If you have a good business case for it, please let us know. It is really not right for us to be doing homework for people. It deprives them of the extra knowledge they get when doing the research themselves.

Which database are you using here! In general syntax is like that: update tablename set=newvalue where clause. It is better to see this link here: https://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14261/update_statement.htm

First guess is that you mean "database table". But there are 'tables' in HTML, in spreadsheets, in word processing documents and elsewhere. If it's "database", which DBMS? DB2? Oracle? Access? SQL Server? NoSQL? What technology do you want to use? Simple SQL? Native access in COBOL? Java and JDBC? C# and ODBC?

There are uncountable answers possible. Please give enough detail to narrow choices down a little.
