Unable to uninstall driver on Windows 10 machine

For the past few days, I've been trying to uninstall a driver on my Windows 10 laptop. My installer says I need to uninstall the previous version first. But when I try to do that, it says: Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You don't have the necessary permissions. I just checked permissions and everything is good. I'm an administrator on the machine too. What can I do?

What driver did you try to uninstall? Be careful, if you uninstall wrong hardware driver, the system may not functioning properly. Reboot the OS in safe mode and try to uninstall the driver. It happens that, might the driver file(s) using by system. Or you can try a 3rd party tool (free) to uninstall the same with leftover items.

Also, before doing like that, must take all necessary backups of your personal files/folders on other drive (D:/ E:, if any) or any removable media such as flash drive/CD or DVD. Why did you remove that one, is the hardware removed early?

What kind of driver are you trying to uninstall and is it in use at the time you are trying to remove it? You can always check with the manufacturer of driver you are trying to update and see if there are any special tools for removing older versions.
