I have upgrade Lotus Notes from 8.2 to 8.5.1 (all clients), but the client does not launch in the standard configuration. Basic configuration (running with notes.exe -sa) is fine. But standard configuration just prompts login dialog and splash screen but does not open the notes workspace.

Software/Hardware used:
Lotus NOtes Client 8.5.1

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

The Standard Configuration is a new technology to support some kind of special goals; it makes use of the Java-based Eclipse technology to enhance existing Notes functionality. Most probably, the error are related to java based like lang. etc.
The Basic Configuration can run on low memory. I guess your computer’s memory is too low to run the standard configuration. Try to increase the memory, & hope the problem will be solved!

Hope it helps you.

I don't remember my exact error, but the first time I installed R8.0.1 on my machine, I had a previous install of Rational Application Developer 6 that also ran in the Eclipse client. Somehow the two were conflicting. I no longer needed RAD, so uninstalled and re-installed R8. This solved the issue. Because you said you have all three Notes clients, I wonder if you also have other Eclipse-based applications that would conflict. Hope this helps in case Rechil's entry is not the answer.

Actually, as I re-read your original question, I kind of doubt either Rechil's answer or mine is the solution. I recommend a full uninstall, reboot, examination of registry to ensure that Notes is gone, then re-install. Make a Backup copy of your data and noets.ini beforehand, but don't move it out of place. The uninstall should not touch it and the re-install should have no problems with it being in place already. Good luck!
