On Ubuntu, is there a way for me to log a file before I delete it? I'm doing some file conversions right now (It's PNG to JPG) and I would like to log the old file before I delete it. Is that possible? Thank you.

How did you delete them? Either by command like rm Or by using any GUI tool. Download/install inotify (a small tool) which can keep log of deleted file/ folders. Also logrotate is a small tool that can useful for the same. You can check its help file.

By log, do you mean a list of the files to be deleted or are you looking for a backup copy in case there is a problem with the conversion?

What do you mean by "log" the files? What are you expecting to be possible after you "log" them? (That will help us understand what you want to do.
