I've had a Lenovo laptop for about a year now. All of a sudden, the Trackpad has completely stopped working. I do have a wireless mouse but I would prefer to use the Trackpad. The latest version of the drivers are installed. Nothing seems to be wrong - anything else I should check?

well maybe the ribbon cable that connect the mouse pad, it is loose or broken, did u opened that laptop, maybe the ribbon cable it is loose, the other thing could be, that you will need to make sure under the control panel your mouse still is configured to the Mousepad or Trackpad , also consider to uninstall it from the device manager and restart the computer to see if if gets installed again and the drivers will get auto installed if they are still in the computer, those will be the first thing i will do, i opened a lenovo laptop to replace teh cpu paste and the ribbon cable from the Trackpad , go broken, well guess what ? i need to use a wireless mouse, check those steps, good luck any other question let me know

Check either the laptop has a function key that enables/disables the trackpad. As you said the driver is up to date, try uninstall the driver first from Device Manager and then again reinstall the driver. Or restart the system may install the driver automatically.

There is another possibility here besides a disconnected or faulty TrackPad. Microsoft issued some bad patches for these kind of devices which caused them not to work or even worse caused the system not to boot properly. You said that the wireless mouse does work properly. I would go into the control panel and take look at device manager and look at mice and other pointing devices to see if the drivers are installed properly. It is possible that your system is not seeing the TrackPad properly or that the drivers for the TrackPad are disabled. If it is not seeing the TrackPad properly, it may show up in unknown or other devices category. If they are disabled you can reenable then from the device manager category because they will be just grayed out. They can be uninstalled and reinstalled at the point too. If the system is not seeing them correctly then you can disable the device, uninstall it, and then reinstall it from this place too.

It may be you disabled it by an accidental hot key. Here is Lenovo's link on how to enable it.
