Dear all,
I have been asked to clone a User profile to another one, with exactly the same properties.
I did a WRKUSRPRF on it & took option-3=Copy into a new profile in order to clone it.
There is a command in the Original profile, which is not working in the cloned profile.
I have given all the OBJECT-Authorities same as in original profile. also the command object is existing in the library list.
Also checked each attribute on both the User Profiles. Both are exactly same.
Then why is the command not working I'm unable to understand. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Do a DSPOBJAUT on the command in question and check to see if there is any specific authority to a user. It may be that the new user profile you set up doesn’t have access to the command.

    Dear Todd,
Thanks for the reply, but as I have already said; that I have given all the OBJECT-Authorities same as in original profile. both the profiles have PUBLIC -- *USE on that command object. I have checked, but still it's not working. Neither it gives any error msg. If I check the JOBLOG; nothing is there. The Command just executes & nothing happens.(Actually another Menu comes up in the original profile, which should happen here too.)

Let's see if I understand what is going on. You have a profile(A). You copied it as a new profile(B). You set all the profile parameters the same. Now you are trying to run a command, is this command from the menu that profile(A) displays? Is this an actual command or program? Does profile(B) have the authority to use that menu object or program object and all related files? It may be possible that your software has it's own built in security that is stopping it from being used. You mentioned the command executes but nothing happens, how do you know it ran?

I'll have 2nd Todd's info, I would look at the application security to make sure the user has authority that way.

I do not know what the program or menu is, but often there are Initial Programs that do some authority checking for the Software PAckage that you are trying to call. The new profile will have to be entered into the package security. Not OS400 !!!

Would you know if there are any authorisation lists securing the objects?  If so, the cloned user profile would need to be added to the authorisation lists.

You may want to check the Initial Menu setting on the Profile. If it is *SIGNOFF change to MAIN.

if you do not know if there is another layer of security, you could try this as a test. Using profile that works, just rename it temporarily. Put an x at the end of it, try to use the program and see if it still functions normally. If it fails then there is another layer of security. Most likely built into your software application. If it works even with the new name than I would need to think some more. It does not make sense.
