This is a basic question of Networking related course. Probably you are in a learning system and going to complete a network certification. TCP/IP is such a concept, that is a communication protocols used to the internet systems. Specially for networking they govern how data is transferred from one system to another. It is important to understand that OSI model provides for a conceptual framework, and no modern protocols implement this model fully. The TCP/IP protocol suite uses a 4 layer model. For more information & concepts, you can go through this book - 'The TCP/IP Guide: A Comprehensive, Illustrated Internet Protocols Reference', by Charles M. Kozierok
