Networking Equipment
I have HP Laserjet 1000 series printer. Please explain to me the steps to connect this printer in LAN with 4 computers. The computers are not in LAN. I want to create a new LAN with 4 computers & the printer mentioned above. All four computers have Windows 98 as Operating System.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Simply connect an ethernet cable from any available port around your house to your printer and when it is on you should be able to print from anywhere on the same LAN.

Hi Since you are thinking of connecting the Computers and printers in the LAN, you can create your own workgroup and connect the printer to one of the Computer and share it. From other compters, go to the control panel and add the printer. Hope this will solve your problem without spending much Thanks

well, if you want to share a printer with 4 pcs, then you can consider creating a wireless network, thereby saving you time and money, First of all, you should buy a wireless router (it comes with it's installation manual) look for the ones that fit your budget and then buy 4 wireless cards for pcs (PCI cards). Whiles you are installing the printer on the first pc, remember to share the printer so that it can be accessed by lan. Now install the printer on the machine you want it to be one and then go to the control panel of all your other pcs and install the printer from LAN. That should do the trick and remember to test print after you install the printer on the other client pcs to make sure that they can print. Happy Wifing.

In a nutshell it all depends on how much you want to spend as stated in the previous responses. on the high end you can obtain a print server and a hub. install a NIC in each computer and create a peer to peer network with the printer. Or on the same set up without a print server just connect the printer to one of the computers and shre it on the peer to peer network.

I agree about the way to connect Laserjet 1000 in network - through one of the PC in network. Don't forget if you want to print something, PC that has printer connected should be ON, if it is not you won't be able to access connected printer.
