Hello Everyone, I need a quick clarification from all. Could you please someone reply back, based on the response will take the decision. My organization is using a Third party Application called Tumbleweed which is file server to transfer the files from AS/400 to Target Systems and receiving files from other app's to AS/400 through this File Server. Till now we used to send files from AS/400 to TumbleWeed(SFTP) server and receives the files to AS/400 from SFTP. But Now the requirement is to connect to Tumbleweed from AS400 and pull the files. I'm confused with SFTP or FTP secure protocol. I have gone through the great article OPENSSH from Scott Klement article, I believe this solution fulfill my requirement. Could someone confirms whether my understanding is correct OR am I missing something here? Thanks,

Is this the article on SSH by Scott Klement you mention?
I have never used Tumbleweed myself. DO you write your own scripts or is it a menu driven selection for the file transfer? If you are writing your own scripts can you post one and we can take a look and see what the issue may be.

I found this to be a good step-by-step guide to setting up sFTP on the iSeries.

As for confirming that your understanding is correct, we would most likely need to know what is your understanding...

    Hello All,

My Understanding on OpenSSH is that, If setting up OpenSSH on As400 box, I can run the scripts to pull the files from third party file server which is Tumbleweed.

Please let me know If I missing something here?

    Hi Todd,

I have developed any scripts to run to pull the files from third party server yet...Once the things are clear, will proceed further with right approach.

    Thanks for responding.

I never heard of Tumbleweed before, but if it can work as an SFTP server, then your understanding is correct.

On the AS400 you would only need the client part of OpenSSH.

    Thanks a lot Carlos.

I am clear now but I have another query on authentication. If I connect to file server(SFTP) and pull the files to AS/400, is password based authentication fine or should I need the public key authentication is must b/w AS400 and SFTP.

If it is going to be an automated task, then your best bet is to use key-based authentication.

Configuring it should be a matter of generating your keys on the AS/400 and copying the public one to some predefined place on the Tumbleweed server.

    Thanks Carlos...

Again going back to basic question. You confirmed that you didn't heard about Tumbleweed. What kind of SFTP severs can connect from AS/400 and pull the files?

It might depend on the platform.  We've successfully used OpenSSH server on Linux servers for similar purposes.

Not really, but it doesn't matter.

If you think you will need help configuring it,feel free to create a new question including all the important details.

@PriyankaG3890: It's possible someone can help. But you shouldn't put a vague question as the 'Answer' to someone else's question.

Open a new question of your own and include enough detail so that it's possible to give actual help.

Details need to include both source and target platforms and OS versions. Also, versions of the sftp server/client should be given.
