Hash of what? A hash of a "value" or column or of a DB2 file or of a stream file or...?

Did you to create MD5 Hash using RPG/SQL? While IBM offers a machine interface operation called CIPHER to make the task of implementing MD5.

Provide more details on what you are looking to hash and is is SHA1 or SHA-512. To many unknowns to provide a usable answer.

I'm not aware of direct support from SQL for SHA. Creating a function that returns a SHA hash value should be easy enough, but a bit more info on requirements seems needed.

Three paths seem likely. In order of potential ease starting with easiest, you might use a 3rd-party product, access the OpenSSL hashing function or code over the CIPHER builtin function.

Come to think of it, I suppose you could also just write your own SHA implementation, but something like what OpenSSL provides is clearly far easier. Also, SHA hashing can be done with Java.
