Run a virus scan of you system, something like the free version of Malwarebytes works well. You may never know how they got added or by who. Just remove them, scan your system and see if they return. Keep track of the sites you go to and if any show up after a visit.. First I ever heard of bookmarks being added with out doing it yourself.

Almost not possible to track the person, if someone did it. Make sure either it is Chrome or Chromium. Delete these bookmarks and check for viruses with good anti virus like MWAV. If there any good anti virus installed already, you can check through this. Also disable/ remove any addons/ extensions.

What site were the bookmarks for? I'm curious if these are sites notorious for malware/viruses of a sit like CNN or MSN.

You can try to uninstall the app and then again reinstall the same. This can help you to overcome this issue, But keep in mind, before going to uninstall, please take backups of bookmarks/settings etc.

Chromebooks are supposedly unhackable (ha!). This is really in terms of malware. If you had a weak password or your screen was unlocked allowing someone else to access it, then all bets are off.
