I am on V5R4.The following SMTP jobs are consuming very high CPU:  QTSMTPSRVD  QTSMTPCLTD  QTSMTPBRCL  QTSMTPBRSR

These jobs are finishing and then next one is running from QSYSWRK.

As a temporary work around please can anyone suggest how do I kill these jobs.

I want to know the steps to kill these jobs.I guess we have to end the smtp server and then there are few more steps.I cannot recall hence pls help.

Also are there any precautios which I need to take while killing these jobs.

Regards

Hughes

First, to end the SMTP server, run ENDTCPSVR *SMTP. Next, use iSeries Navigator to investigate the properties of your SMTP server -- My Connections-> (myAS400)-> Network-> Servers-> TCP/IP. Right-click SMTP and select Properties. Select the Relay Restrictions tab. Ensure that either None or a Specified set is chosen. If Specified, ensure that the set is correct. If that brings no relief when you start SMTP again, post back. To restart -- STRTCPSVR *SMTP. You might want to review all SMTP settings while you're in there. You listed all four general SMTP jobs including the SNA bridge jobs, QTSMTPBRCL and QTSMTPBRSR. If those two are participating in the high CPU, then you might also need to end and restart the Mail Server Framework while SMTP is shut down. Use ENDMSF to end it. When you restart it, you should consider using STRMSF *CLEAR to flush all e-mail items out. Tom

In STRMSF there is a parameter -Number of jobs and I find default as 3.Should I leave it as 3. Apologies for slow response. It probably doesn't matter for 95+% of sites. I've never used anything but the default. General configuration combined with system workload should either leave three jobs running or change the number up or down automatically. Tom
