Shared wifi in small building security

I live in a small building with shared wifi. I recently had to reinstall windows 10 because i discovered a device with an unknown mac address on the network that granted itself elevated administrative permissions on my pc over the last few weeks. My pc which i thought was secure was not.
I do not have other options for housing right now nor another ISP. What is the best way for me to learn how to secure windows 10 from unscrupulous or illegal activity attempting to gain access to my PC through exploits, vulnerabilities or malware?

make sure you are running a good firewall program to prevent snooping. Also a good anitvirus with real time protection. This way you will get notifications when someone is trying to connect to your pc or there is suspicious traffic on the network. Also is this is a shared network for the building, contact the network admin and let him know. You may not be the only one affected and there may be a bigger risk than anyone is aware of.

Is there any good antivirus installed? Is your Windows 10 is up-to-date? You can use and configure Windows 10 built-in antivirus called Windows Defender. Immediately you can change Windows password including your mail passwords etc with strong one. If possible, stop immediately banking related transactions, if any.

Good endpoint security (i.e. malware protection) and continual updates are your best defenses. Strong passwords are essential. Make sure you have changed your password recently as well. You might also consider using an online VPN service to protect to your communications. You might also consider using your cell phone as a hotspot and staying off of that wireless network altogether.

The service set identifier or SSID is one of the most basic Wi-Fi network settings. It certainly can cause for a risk by using a too common of a SSID. Use an inconspicuous SSID.

It is not enough to set a simple password for Wi-Fi network. Invest time in learning about & applying enhanced security measures can go a long way toward better protecting the network. The service set identifier (SSID) is one of the most basic Wi-Fi network settings. Use an inconspicuous network name that is SSID.
