I'm in the process of setting up two factor authentication on a new Linux server. What's the best way to setup usernames/passwords on this? Thank you very much!

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

What vendor are you using? I would think that they have an installer and implementation instructions on how to do this.

There is no "best" way, though any of the many various ways might work better than others for you.

For example, where I am right now, there is effectively no cell phone service most of the time. A 2FA process that used cell service to present a code wouldn't be very useful here even if there was a general consensus among experts that it was the "Best Way".

You need to define "best" in terms of your environment. What is your budget? Do you want any 3rd-party hardware? Will dongles, smart-cards, etc., be acceptable or required? Are smart-phones sufficient? Do you want a DIY -- more or less -- solution?

    Other elements might be applicable.

More project details with specifics would help us to point in the right direction. Too many possibilities as the others have mentioned.
