Setting HP printer defaults to black and white printing

Our CIO has tasked us with determining a way to default all of our printer drivers to black and white printing. The user would be able to select color on a per job basis but would not be able to permanently change the DEFAULT to color. Currently, the user could go into the printer preferences and uncheck the "print in greyscale" option. I am just trying to get some suggestions on the best way to handle this. We have not been able to figure out how to modify the driver directly to achieve this. We are using all HP printers. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Open Devices and Printers from control panel. Now right click on default printer to select Printing Preferences. Again select the printer again, & then click Paper/Quality tab. Now click Advanced > Print in Grayscale > Black Ink Only. Next click the Black & White button. If you want to print in low quality mode select Draft quality. Now do this for all of the printers.

In some of the HP Color Printers that are Network Capable, you can have the option the option to change the profile of everyone that uses it. so that the default would be gray scale. This would be the normal setting. To make it print color, you would have to go into the properties of specific print job and change from the grayscale to color and then it would print that job in color, and then default back to grayscale.

HP provided a good printer driver which can work almost all HP printers called Universal printer driver this may help to solve this issue. You can download/install the same from here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04324001
