SAVACTMSGQ in SAVOBJ Command

SAVOBJ
Hi, I'm facing an issue with AS/400 backup process. I changed current daily backup program in order to cater backup times for a user request. And I included SAVACTMSGQ parameter to the exiting SAVLIB command in the CL PGM. After that daily backup duration increased. Previously it took only 15 minutes to complete the full back up and after this modification it takes around one hour. Is it due to SAVACTMSGQ parameter? Please refer below code. I changed only SAVACTMSGQ parameter on this.
SBMJOB CMD(SAVLIB LIB(&LIBNAM) DEV(*SAVF) + SAVF(&SAVLIB/&SAVFNAME) SAVACT(*SYSDFN) + SAVACTMSGQ(&MSQLIB/&BKSSMSGQ) + DTACPR(*HIGH)) JOB(&SAVFNAME) + JOBD(&BTHJOD) INLLIBL(*JOBD) LOG(*JOBD + *JOBD *SECLVL) LOGCLPGM(*YES)
It would be great if someone could help me out to get this issue resolved.
Thanks.
Stephz

The SAVACT will not speed up your backups. The use of the SAVACTMSGQ is to signal when the Sync point is reached. A program could be monitoring that message queue and restart applications or other. At our shop we use BRMS and a Save Changed object strategy in combination with save Active.. Reaching a sync point for some 1000 libraries takes some 10 minutes. Before Backup the system activities are stopped and these are restarted once the sync point is reached. If your goal is minimizing downtime that seems to me the best option.

Is there a reason for the SAVACTMSGQ? I have never used it and would like to know what benefit this will provide. There may be a better alternative. IT may be that this MSGQ is constantly active and extending the backup until there is a lull in MSGQ activity.

Do you know that DTACPR(*HIGH) adds time to the backup?

Were you using the data compression before you changed the command?
