If I used my company's computer and signed into gmail through Internet explorer and my company has a back up server is there anyway they can go in and retrieve my permanently deleted emails that I sent through gmail? They must be erased off gmails server because they no longer show up when I search my mail but is there a way the IT department and retrieve those emails?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

I do not think they can as long as you used GMAIL for composing and sending the e-mail and not the company e-mail server. The only way I should think they can would be through the use of a key logger.

Gmail is an internet email address, so nothing there is actually located on your company's server. It would be like deleting a video, then looking at the tv to try and recover it....your computer simply provides the view through a browser :-(

Impossible for us to know what can or can't be done through your employer's hardware and network. The actual emails aren't part of your employer's environment, so those themselves won't be a concern.

But anything that is entered into or displayed with your browser on an employer PC is potentially suspect. We have no way of knowing what tracking is done of browser activity where you work.

Similarly, if you're using a non-browser email client on the PC, any tracking could be possible.

You have to ask your employer or whoever controls your network and the devices that connect to it.

If the question is theoretically "Can they...?", then the answer is "Yes." But if the question is "Do they...?", then the answer is "We have no idea what they do. We don't work there."
