Reset disks to Non-RAID

Can LaCie's 2big Thunderbolt Series 2-Bay RAID Hard Drive, be reset to a "non-raid" operation? Deleting the RAID configuration. Allowing the use of the TWO HDD's as separate HDD's?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

i believe all nas can change back to raid 0 or raid 1. but when you want to change back to raid 0, kindly do your backup of your files else where before resetting the raid

Hello: Question on changing your LaCie drive from RAID 0 to non-RAID.

As you may know, your drive comes with RAID 0 by default.
In order to get rid of this pre-configured RAID configuration, format the drive.
Since you don't want a RAID configuration, you can also set your LaCie to a configuraton called Big.

    Big (Concatenation)

When disks are concatenated, their capacities are combined and data is written to the primary disk in the array until is it full, and then to successive disks. Concatenation provides no performance advantage or added measure of data safety. It is simply a method of combining more than one physical disk into one volume for greater overall capacity. Concatenation allows full use of the capacity of all disks in the array

First step is to Back up your hard drive. When you change your RAID, your data will be destroyed.

Unmount or safely remove the 2big Quadra volumes from your computer,

Disconnect the interface cable, and switch off the 2big.

To enter RAID modification mode, push and hold the front button and simultaneously turn on the 2big. Continue holding the front button for 2 seconds.
Use the 2-in-1 tool to push the RAID selection button until the light arrives in front the desired RAID mode. The LED of the selected mode will blink until you validate it (next step). Validate the mode by pushing and holding the front LED button for 2 seconds.
Turn off the 2big, allow it to shut down and turn it back on.
    Reformat the disks.

Note: You must partition the disk drives after changing the RAID mode.

If you purchase a SAN system, why would you want to break the RAID and just have two separate hard drives?  It would have been cheaper to buy two external single storage drives vice buying a SAN system with two drives, especially when you start getting into the 4TB hard drive area.
