Replicated Mails.

Hi all, I have my outlook express configured to retrieve mails from my domain account, but the mails are being replicated. Every mail sent to me are being replicated 3 to 4 times even when the sender sent it just once. What could likely be wrong? I have scanned the system and its free of viruses

    I have the same problem with OE when downloading my email from hotmail... If there is only one new one item to download it won't replicate if there is more than one I will it replicate all new e-mail until the next download which will delete previous replications and then replicate the new....did I say replicate enough... I haven't found a fix but I haven't looked all that hard its at home and generally minor things like that dont really worry me.

    This problem is commonly associated with a timeout issue while downloading the email. What happens is that Outlook Express doesn't tell the POP mail server that it has received the email until is done transferring all of the email. It's definately not "replication" however. What you can do to test to make sure it's not your email server, you can telnet into the mail server and issue it POP3 commands. You would logon to it using USER userid, PASS password, and LIST to show what email headers are out there. Each of these commands are entered on separate lines. You should only see one header. Try checking your mail more often to see if you can decrease the number of messages sitting on the server at a time. If you stop getting duplicate messages doing this, you should check that either your local bandwidth or the servers bandwidth is adequate to handle all of the connections to it (unless you don't own the POP3 server).     This can also happen if the account in the Outlook Express has configured more than one rule for the same type of message. Check, Tools / Message rules / mail to see if you can find more than one rule for the same type of message...

    If this is not the case as explained in Replies 3 and 4, then it must be the mail forwarding request we send to the private mail servers like gmail etc. You might have configured both Automatic forwarding and POP downloads which may be the result of duplication. Can you tell us what mail client you are using.

    If you have OE set to check for mail more often than once every 5 minutes, try changing that setting to once every 10 minutes and see if that helps. Jim
