I work for a small non-profit in Canada that collects photos of marine mammals and modifies metadata to link marine mammal IDs. All employees live in different cities but need to access stored files of these photos, and be able to search these files (10s of thousands of photos) by the metadata we've added in using Photomechanic without downloading all the files. Is there a storage option with remote access and metadata search capabilities?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

There are a lot of remote options available but some of them being freeware limit you to the amount of storage. There is tiered pricing levels so not knowing the total storage needed or your limited budget it is hard to make a recommendation. One option that comes to mine is MyCloud

More clear view is required. From where the employees access these photos? Is it within office/outside of the office? Also you mentioned for searching option, but is there an interface or something like that, which provides searching data? Is there a public IP? However, the tag is indicated Remote Access, for this purpose only, you can use any remote access software/tools.

Thank you! Do you know with MyCloud if searching by metadata (not just data or filename) is possible without downloading all files?

The employees would be accessing from their computers via internet at their home offices. One of the employees has hard drive storage where all data is backed up, which all other employees would like to access remotely without downloading gigabytes of data to their computer in order to search specific metadata. So remote access to a hard drive at anytime would be ideal.

Yes, provide the full access excluding write/modify access and then the employees can connect the hard disk through their computers. However, you did not reveal what did it mean, 'accessing from their computers via internet'.
