The only thing I can find on the ENP file format is its an application preferences file used by older versions of EndNote citation management software. If that is the case you may need to contact them.

It does look as if EndNote is the likely program to process .ENP files. Of course, it could anything since the extension is merely a hint at best. If these are EndNote files, they hold preferences. There's practically no point in trying to open them with anything else.

Many 'preferences' files are simple text. So, Notepad works fine to view contents. Notepad actually works to open almost all files, though that doesn't do anything for processing. And few binary (non-text) files have much that's readable.

When you say recover, do you mean you need a way to open these old files with out the software that created them or have they become damaged and the software will no longer open them?

How these files are lost? Whatever it is, first try to recover from Recycle Bin (Windows). You can double-click on the Recycle Bin in Windows to see if the files are there. If you find these files, drag them one by one to the desktop. Or click on the file and click "Restore" button in the drop-down menu to return the file to its original location.
