You can set the retention policy in Office 365 which best meet your requirement. Please refer the MS Office blog to setup custom retention period.

You can extended email retention period for deleted items in Office 365. For that click on Compliance Management and then select retention policy tab. From here you can easily set the retention policy.

I recently did the free Windows 10 upgrade. I had been using office 2003 which does not work properly. Thinking about upgrading to office 2013 or 365 but do not see how I can import 2003 emails. Does anyone know if this can be done and if so will they remain on my PC or on the server?
