What model iSeries and OS are you running? What codes are displayed currently and what are you trying to change? This IPL (boot) process should be easy with minimal user interaction. Mostly done from a console. Why are you using the panel on the iSeries and not a console?

Without knowing what the hardware (i.e., model) is, it's harder to know how to answer. Try reviewing topics around Physical control panel in the Hardware Information Center to see if you can get us closer.

Aarrgh! Reboot from the panel?? No! You might as well pull the plug out of the wall. Sign on to a console and issue a PWRDWNSYS RESTART(*YES).

Hi everybody and thanks for your responses. First of all we are not able to access through a console. Unfortunately this approach has not been working for a very long time and we have not been able to find anybody, who could help us reinstall the console. The OS was decommisioned by IBM in 2009 and nobody seems to know anything about this anymore. I will come back later with the panel info.

Blind IPL from the control panel can be trouble, but it seems unlikely in this case. It'd be better if we knew why you don't have a console.

It's not clear what is meant by decommisioned. The only IBM i OS action in 2009 was that 5.4 reached end-of-marketing. And that wouldn't seem to have anything to do with a 'console'.

For i 5.4, a console could be a direct-attach terminal. But it could also be Ops Console or LAN Console, connecting over TCP/IP. And iSeries Navigator pretty much eliminates any need for any terminal session for shutdown/restart.
