Problem: I am trying to access a data area on a library that is in an iASP partition via a java program. I am using jt400 to create a jdbc connection to access the said data area. then getcharacterdataarea.class to basically access the data area, with the filepath parameter pointed to the iASP ('/IASP/QSYS.lib/MYLIB.lib/MyDataarea.dtaara').
I get an error that the library cannot be found, but when I do WRKOBJ on the library on the green screen using my the profile used in jt400, I'm able to see the object library. I do the same for code for a data area that is in a library in *SYSBAS, I'm able to retrieve the value of the data area. My questions please:
  1.  How do you configure QZDASOINIT prestart jobs to be able to access objects that are in an independent ASP as part of the job name space?
  2. Is setting the jobd of the current user for the prestart job to use an iASP enough?
  3. Do I need to restart the subsystem where QZDASOINIT is configured as a prestart job before my changes to the user profile's job description takes effect?
  4. Do I need to define the ASPGRP as part of the SBSD itself?
  5. Do I need to configure a different default user (instead of QUSER) for the QZDASOINIT job itself when it is started, and use a iASP enabled job description for the user profile?
  6. I Searched the iASP redbooks but i was not able to find detailed / specific sections for configuring prestart jobs to work with objects on an iASP. Any specific reading materials you could recommend?
Thank you in advance for the replies.

Haven't had need to mess with iASP's, but I'm aware they can take a while to come online at IPL. Could this be a timing issue? ie: You start the system; the pre-start job tries to run but the iASP isn't ready yet so it fails; you sign on to take a look but now the iASP is ready and everything looks ok? -just a thought.

Thanks Greg. Was able to pinpoint the problem. It was a job description configuration issue.

Glad you figured it out. I was going to suggest checking the TIMEOUT on the QZDASOINIT job. Sometimes when making changes these jobs will take longer for the changes to show.
