query conversion alpha to numeric

I have split a field into two new fields by using SUBSTR, but want to define those as numeric fields. How can this be done

    What "query" product are you using? Some query products are easier than others, and some probably shouldn't be used. But if we don't know which one you're using, we have a hard time knowing how it might be done. -- Tom
