So a co-worker told me it's possible to actually pull data from the header of a PDF (and just completely ignore the rest of the file). But I can't figure out how to do this at all. I'm on a Mac too. Has anyone done this before?

You can download the PDF specification and write your own programming to extract any part of a PDF document that you're interested in.

Your request needs to be more clear. The term "data" is far too vague. And it's not clear what you need to know. Do you need to know how to create programming to "pull data" from a file?

If understood correctly, you can do this, go through each page of the original PDF file, delete all content except for the header. Or go to the Action tool in Acrobat & create a new action. Click More Tools & click execute JavaScript. Press the right arrow to add that task to the action. Here you can write a right script to do the same job.

A lot also depends on how the PDF was created. If it's a non standard format you may have a much harder time extracting anything. How technical are your skills and in what coding language.
